Project description: ForestChemiFuel project intends to overcome part of environmental/economic problems (waste accumulation and high costs) by green processing technologies of forest biomass waste. Therefore, cones, needles and barks of abundantly available trees from East of Romania forests (spruce, fir and pine) will be studied by using torrefaction, pyrolysis and catalytic up-grading processes. The influence of torrefaction/pyrolysis operational parameters on products yields will be evaluated, with a special attention on the bio-oil yield, properties and subsequently the potential to be used as a fuel oil substitute and/or source of chemicals.
