of the Visiting and Partnering Session
The 2nd edition of the Romanian-Austrian Science Day, organized underthe auspices of The Romanian Minister for Education, Research and Innovation and The Austrian Federal Minister for Science and Research has taken place in Iasi, Romania, on 14 May 2009.
The main objective of the Romanian-Austrian Science Day was to stimulate and intensify the co-operation in science, research and higher education between Romania and Austria.
The specific objectives of the Romanian-Austrian Science Day:
- to promote or initiate new and ongoing cooperation activities,
- to facilitate meetings between potential academic and research partners from Romania and Austria,
- to enhance and deepen the contacts in higher education and research between Romanian and Austrian universities and/or research organizations,
- to explore possibilities for developing new partnerships and deepening existing collaboration in joint study programmes, projects and research activities.
The research topics considered within the Visiting & Partnering session:

- Nanosciences, nanotechnologies, materials & new production technologies

Remark. The first part of the visit was a joint meeting with Faculty of Electronics, Telecommunication and Information Technology, where the main research and education activities of the Faculty of Computer Science (FCS) were presented by Vlad Radulescu.
The second part of the visit, at FCS, was more research-oriented and included two technical presentations: Innsbruck Semantic Technology Institute (ISTI) and FCS (Iasi).
New cooperation activities/ joint study programme/joint projects/ joint research activities:
- Joint dissertation projects FCS-ISTI. ISTI proposes dissertation subjects for FCS master students and the interested students will have a documentation & training period at ISTI, in order to accomplish the dissertation-related project.
- Invited lecturers from both sides.
- ISTI is interested to offer post-doctoral visiting positions for people who graduated the PhD program at FCS.
- Bilateral research cooperation on automated reasoning in Semantic Web. The idea is to combine the experience of FCS in developing automated proving tools and the Semantic Web-based framework developed at ISTI.
- FCS and University of Klagenfurt agreed to start an Erasmus exchange program for bith bachelor and master students.

The representatives of NIRDTP Iasi had an exploratory discussion with Dr. Guenther Herdin on different sensing applications based on microwires or nanowires, cochlear implants using magnetostrictive nanowires as sensing elements, hydrogen storage materials.
Dr. Guenther Herdin promised that he will inform his colleagues and the Board Members of his company on the RDI activities developed at NIRDTP Iasi, in order to initiate possible collaborations in the future. Also, our representatives agreed that the know-how, the patented products and technologies developed at NIRDTP Iasi, and the extended experimental facilities can constitute the starting point for further collaborations with AGNION Technologies GmbH or other companies they are collaborating with.
