FIELD(S) OF ACTIVITY:

PPIMC is an Institute of Excellence of the Romanian Academy founded in 1949. During the last five years, based on annual evaluations, it was ranked in the first/second position among the 64 institutes/centres of the Romanian Academy. This leading position is internationally recognized – the reputed Institute for Scientific Information (ISI), Philadelphia, USA, lists the Institute among the “main Romanian actors on the international scientific scene– in fact, the Institute holds the first position in the ISI classification as a research institute.
The Institute develops two important innovation competences: (a) a scientific competence, reflected in publications in macromolecular and organic chemistry, biochemistry, physical chemistry, biology, physics and materials science, and (b) a technological competence dedicated to technology transfer and industrial implementation of the original research.

RESEARCH PRIORITIES:
Last years, new research topics – inspired mainly from the third priority of 7th FP – were introduced in the research programmes of the Institute. They focused on

  • supramolecular chemistry
  • interpolymeric complexes
  • biopolymers and bioactive polymeric compounds
  • micro/nano sized materials
  • polymeric materials (composites, blends, etc.)
  • materials with magnetic properties

INNOVATIVE RTD ASPECTS:

  • multicomponent and multifunctional polymeric systems based on natural and synthetic polymers, with targeted application as drug delivery systems, bioseparators and biosensors or bioactive compounds used in photodynamic cancer therapy,
  • thin films and nano-sized materials directed toward UV/laser ablation, optoelectronic and electro-optic devices, lithography or thermally resistant membranes,
  • multiresponsive polymeric materials that are either obtained by or used for eco-friendly processes.

COOPERATION INTERESTS:
Fundamental and applied research concerning the use of polymeric or biopolymeric materials in environmental protection, sustainable development, health and agriculture

  • initiation of bilateral cooperation within the above mentioned research priorities
  • participation in FP7 projects and other European and international initiatives
  • mobility of young and experienced researchers

REQUESTED PARTNER PROFILE:

  • depending on the cooperation targets
